We Study Trees!

On March 18 we were treated to a discussion about how to draw trees led by Vicky Katzman.

Those of us who were able to attend had a marvelous time learning about the different sorts of tree branches and twigs and how these differences affect the look of the trees when you're creating a drawing or painting. For more information, here is a link to her workshop page:

Starting soon, we'll review these photos and I'll explain my problems/solutions with trees:

Maple, April 4, 2021. Somewhere on West Main Street, Clinton.

Just in bud, so notice the opposing twigs.

Dogwood, April 5, 2021, Hunterdon County Arboretum.

Katsura Tree, April 5, 2021, Hunterdon County Arboretum. (Native of Japan & China)

Silhouettes

Closeup of the 3rd one on the right. View of the Halstead St. Bridge from the Red Mill Museum grounds. About 2016, Spring.

Painting of that view from about 2017, Summer. I could have done SO MUCH MORE with the trees if I had understood them better!
